INTRODUCTION

As a Registered Nurse, having worked in healthcare since the 1960's, I have seen it all, and, if not 'all', close to it.

My venture in healthcare has been crossed by many paths of a changing system of delivery of patient care.

Having worked in a variety of healthcare delivery professions , I have developed a passion for quality delivery of care. This care given to patients comes from a variety of sources i.e.  nurses, any hospital employee (laboratory, xray, etc.,) physicians, physician office and personnel, chiropractors, dentists,  nursing home employees and anyone who is providing a healthcare service, including insurance companies.

Although one does not like to think about mistakes/errors that are made by the above sources of patient care, it is a reality.  We hear about these errors from the media, as well as friends or acquaintences who have, unfortunately, had this experience. How can we, as consumers, make a difference, and, prevent mistakes/errors from happening, especially to our body? The bottom line is to be an 'informed consumer'-------the only way.

During my many years in the field of healthcare, I have been made aware of many errors. Some have resulted in minor negative outcomes for patients, some have resulted in death. Many have been avoidable, and, did not have to occur.

Unfortunately, I have seen many errors that were overlooked, many pushed under the carpet and, then, those that were brought to light.  I have seen healthcare professionals speak out to bring forth quality care, when errors have taken place. At times, these professionals were criticized for not keeping quiet about errors. Outrageous indeed ! !...... However, these individuals wanted quality patient care and to correct problems ,in order to prevent further mistakes. I was one of these people.

Mistakes can come from any of the sources mentioned above.

It is out of my passion for quality of delivery of patient care, that I bring this website to you, the visitor/reader. My goal is to bring these "short readings" to you, in hopes that you will learn what is right and what is wrong in delivery of patient care.

I invite you, the visitor/reader, to share any of your experiences in order to enlightened and increase awareness in other consumers, in order to prevent mistakes and errors from happening.

The bottom line: "THE PATIENT COMES FIRST">>>>>>>>>>>>>This is what delivery of care is all about... THE PATIENT FIRST ! !
